Man United news: Jose Mourinho ‘admits he wishes he had signed Ivan Perisic instead of Alexis Sanchez’

JOSE MOURINHO has admitted he would have preferred to sign Ivan Perisic instead of Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.
The Manchester United chief missed out on the Croatia wide man in the summer of 2017 – and landed Sanchez the following January.

Mourinho is a big fan of Inter Milan ace Perisic and did everything he could to tempt him to Old Trafford.
But after failing to get a deal done, United swooped for Sanchez, 29, in a swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Chile winger has been raking in £505,000-a-week ever since, while contributing little on the field.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly wondering what could have been if he signed Ivan PerisicEPAIvan Perisic was United’s No1 priority in the summer of 2017 but a deal could not be doneGetty – ContributorOld Trafford chiefs were concerned about Perisic’s age while considering a move and it could have been the deciding factor in them not pushing a deal through.
At 29, the Croat’s value will soon be declining and, unlike Sanchez, he would have cost a tidy sum to bring in.
But with the former Arsenal forward’s huge wages, it is not certain in hindsight that United are better off financially with the deal.

Why Martial is perfect foil for Pogba

ANTHONY Martial is not only in fine goal-scoring form because he also helps fellow Frenchman Paul Pogba to shine in a way Alexis Sanchez does not.
The statistics back this up – and it’s all down to how Sanchez and Pogba get in each other’s way.
They should be United’s two most potent attackers but if they are in the same area it’s much easier for the opposition to crowd them out.

The Times insists Sanchez – who has four years remaining on his deal – already wants to leave United after a miserable return of four goals in 28 appearances.
He is said to be lonely and isolated in the dressing room, while a split from his girlfriend has caused issues off the field.
United are unlikely to undergo wholesale changes in January but could try to shift the Chile internationals’ wages off their books if they can find a suitor.
