Strictly Come Dancing’s Kevin Clifton failed his first audition for the show, as he claims he was ‘too emo.’

Hard to imagine, right? But the 36-year-old confessed he was once seen as a goth and fancied himself as a ‘bit of a rock and roller.’

Chatting to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning, the star opened up on his past life after Holly teased he used to look like the Rock Of All Ages character Stacee Jaxx.

Showing a picture of Kevin back in his 20s, the professional dancer could be seen wearing a top hat with long black hair poking out from underneath.

He laughed: ‘I was a goth – I have always been a massive rock and roll fan and fancied myself as a bit of a rock and roll star.

‘The first time I auditioned for Strictly I looked like that and they said no. They had no need for some kind of emo kid on Strictly Come Dancing.’

Reflecting on why he decided to change his appearance, the star said: ‘I knew I would never be a rockstar – me walking down the street of Grimsby looking like that is a bit silly.’

However, it seems Kevin will now be able to live out his rock and roll fantasies, as he has just been cast as Stacee Jaxx in Rock Of All Ages.

He said: ‘I fell in love with it when I first saw it back in New York. I’m a big rock fan and this is my favourite musical, so when this opportunity came up I had to do it.’

Kevin will be skipping on this year’s Strictly tour to enter the world of musical theatre – despite winning the show with his celebrity partner Stacey Dooley.

Describing the moment their names were called out by Tess Daly, Kevin revealed his knees went weak as he dropped to the floor.

He said: ‘It was amazing, we didn’t expect it at all.

‘My parents were sat just to the left of us – we were at the bottom of the leader board and I was like, “there’s no chance we will win.”

‘I looked over to my mum and dad and they gave me a bit of a look because they didn’t think we were going to win either.’

But they did, and Kevin recalled: ‘When Tess said Stacey and Kevin my mum and dad shot up and my knees gave way and I dropped to the floor.’
