Years And Years viewers in bits over sex robot Keith as Hear’Say’s Noel Sullivan makes appearance

Years And Years has become a big talking point with viewers over its refreshing representation and near-future setting, but there’s one contraption which is particularly tickling the masses.

The new BBC drama, written by Russell T Davies, follows three generations of Manchester family, the Lyons, from 2019 through to 2034, depicting the aftermath of Brexit, a second term of Donald Trump and the growth of a far-right populist party led by Vivienne Rook (Emma Thompson).

Along with the political near-future intrigue, it also sketches out the lighter side of future living – namely a sex robot called Keith.

In the first episode, single mother Rosie (Ruth Madeley) goes on a date with Tony Watts (Noel Sullivan). Things start out well too, enjoying a romantic dinner in his home and meeting his house robot Keith, before things quickly escalate to the bedroom.

As she opens his bedside drawer, however, Rosie stumbles upon a bizarre contraption – and soon puts the pieces together to realise another function Keith is used for.

‘You have sex with your robot,’ Rosie shouts across the kitchen.

What is the Mental Health Minute, when is it and how to listen to it?

The incident soon becomes a hysterical talking point with her family, including Stephen (Rory Kinnear) and Daniel (Russell Tovey).

Keith has now casually become a poster robot for future generations, and that Hear’Say song will never be the same again.

The best timeline of events, that’s what.

Russell Tovey spoke to Metro.co.uk about LGBT representation in the show, with the actor explaining how there’s been a ‘complete shift’.

Years And Years continues on Tuesday BBC One at 9pm.
