MTV’s Teen Mom OG may be returning with season nine sooner than fans may have thought. It seems MTV has officially released some information regarding the upcoming season, and the show will be coming back early in the new year.
Teen Mom first aired on MTV in 2009. Viewers watched as teenage girls experienced their first pregnancies and the difficulties that came along with being pregnant at a young age. During the fifth season of the show in 2015, MTV changed the name to Teen Mom OG as other spin-off shows were airing at the same time. Over the years, some girls have come and gone from the series. Of the seven moms to star on the show from the original season in 2009, only three girls have been part of the main cast for every season. Maci McKinney, Catelynn Baltierra, and Amber Portwood have all been on all eight seasons so far. Season eight of Teen Mom OG came to an end back in June 2020.
The original teen moms are returning for another season sooner than fans may have thought. MTV News finally released the season nine premiere date. According to their website, Teen Mom OG will come back with season nine on January 26, 2021. The five moms from season eight – Amber, Catelynn, Cheyenne, Maci and Mackenzie – will be returning for the new season. While the season will continue to portray the girls’ highs and lows of motherhood, it will also show how they are adjusting to life’s “new normal.” The girls have yet to post about the upcoming season on their personal Instagram accounts.
Although the series will show the four moms getting used to the “new normal,” they will also be sharing their personal difficulties and achievements. Amber will be moving onto her ex-fiancé Gary Shirley’s property. Catelynn will showcase her bravery by opening up about her miscarriage. Cheyenne will announce she is pregnant again shortly after getting back together with her ex-boyfriend, Zach. Maci will put her son Bentley first as he attempts to fix his relationship with his father, Ryan. Lastly, Mackenzie will move to Florida to take on a business opportunity as her marriage with Josh begins to fall apart. Fans took to Instagram to share their thoughts about the upcoming season. Some are excited to see the girls back on TV while others fear the season will be dragged out. See the post that prompted the conversation below:
This upcoming season will most likely be a little different for fans, as it seems most of the season was shot during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the announcement did not touch on the topic, it is likely production had to be altered for at least a portion of the season. The girls also may have had to film themselves while in quarantine. The season could show young moms facing the reality of parenting during a pandemic. Fans will have to wait just one more month to see how the new season of Teen Mom OG turns out.
