Richard is fans’ top pick (Picture: FilmMagic)Doctor Who fans have voted Richard Ayoade as their favourite choice to take over from Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor.
Amid reports that Jodie is set to leave after series 13, which will be her third season in the role, there have been plenty of names floating about, from Love Actually star Kris Marshall to I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel.
However, in a Metro.co.uk poll, it was IT Crowd star Richard who came out on top, securing 38% of the vote.
Richard Ayoade – 38%
Crystal Maze host Richard secured a large portion of the vote – and it’s not difficult to see why.
The quirky comic definitely has the right look to play the Doctor, even down to his personal style.
Plus, it would be a joy to see the Doctor take on his dry wit.
Richard’s odds are currently 6/1.
Kris Marshall – 33%
Kris secured the number two spot (Picture: WireImage)Love Actually star Kris followed closely behind.
He’s not as hotly tipped for the role as Richard, but has been a contender for years – is it finally his time to take a turn in the TARDIS?
The actor has also starred in the likes of Death in Paradise and Sanditon so Who could be a real change of pace for him.
Kris’ odds are 10/1 at the moment.
Jo Martin – 12%
Next up is Jo, who is the only one of the contenders to have actually played the Doctor before.
She appeared in series 12 of Doctor Who where she was revealed to be a past incarnation of the Doctor, with fans pointing out that she could be a pretty ‘obvious’ choice for the role.
The actress was also the first ever person of colour, and the second woman to play the Doctor.
Jo isn’t one of the bookies’ favourites for the role, but she’s certainly made a mark on fans.
Michaela Coel – 6%
Michaela is the bookies’ favourite (Picture: WireImage )Michaela is the ‘most likely’ contender to take on the role according to the bookies – but it seems fans aren’t so convinced.
Before Jodie’s casting was announced in 2017, the I May Destroy You star denied rumours that she would be appearing, and urged fans not to place bets on her.
However, after she’s seen huge success this year, would it be another string to add to her bow?
Michaela is currently the favourite, with odds of 5/1.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge – 6%
Phoebe is an outside contender (Picture: WireImage)She’s a woman of many talents but Who fans aren’t big on the Fleabag creator and star becoming the 14th Doctor.
Considering her recent work on Harry Styles’ and Phoebe Bridgers’ music videos, we’re sure she’s got a hectic schedule – but we still wouldn’t be opposed to seeing her hop in the TARDIS.
Phoebe’s odds are currently 12/1.
Jodie Comer – 5%

We get it – she’s got enough going on as it is, and we certainly wouldn’t want to delay any new series of Killing Eve.
But you never know – Jodie’s odds are currently 12/1.
Of course, it’s not confirmed that Jodie Whittaker will definitely be leaving after series 13, and the BBC has said that it won’t be commenting on her future on the show.
Who knows? She could be the first New Who Doctor to stay on for four series.
Meanwhile, we’ve still got a whole new series of Jodie, along with Mandip Gill (Yaz) and newcomer John Bishop (Dan) to look forward to.
We can’t wait!
Doctor Who will return to BBC One in 2021.
