Coronation Street is in the midst of one of its most dramatic weeks yet, with several characters caught up in the horror of the sinkhole that has opened up in Weatherfield.

The hole, which originally began in the Platts’ garden only to collapse after they failed to have it repaired, has already swallowed up Abi (Sally Carman) and Corey (Maximus Evans).

And others potentially facing a grim fate are Rovers landlady Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) who was seen plunging into the hole in Wednesday night’s double bill of episodes.

With Jenny’s life hanging in the balance, Johnny (Richard Hawley), made attempts to rescue her himself, ignoring Leo’s suggestion that they should wait for emergency services, and instead climbing down into the sewers to try and help.

But with the outcome of this week’s episodes uncertain, could the pair of them be about to meet a grim fate – have we seen the last of Johnny and Jenny?

Are Jenny and Johnny leaving Coronation Street and do they die?

The fate of all of the characters left in peril in Corrie’s massive week remains uncertain at this stage – it’s not been revealed who will survive the week and which characters have breathed their last.

Neither Sally Anne Matthews nor Richard Hawley have given any indication they are leaving the soap – but with a story as unpredictable as this, anything could happen…

Jenny ended up in the sinkhole after heading over to the Platts to find Leo amid concerns about his safety – only for the ground to literally swallow her up as the sinkhole expanded.

But with her toyboy lover nowhere to be seen, Johnny’s appearance came as a surprise – and it will be interesting to see how things go from here if both do survive, given that Jenny was reeling from the news he planned to leave the cobbles.

Speaking about the unfolding drama, Sally Ann told ‘She’s terrified, injured and cold. She has this overwhelming sense that someone must come and rescue me. She knows that Leo is on the case so is confident initially that she will be found.

‘When Johnny arrives, she’s like “what the bloody hell are you doing here. It forces them to discuss how they feel”.‘When you’re in a situation like that, you have to pull together. You have to help each other and keep each other’s spirits up. One will flag a bit, the other bolsters them up.

‘Within those conversations, maybe things are said and feelings are exposed. Poor old Leo, plenty more fish in the sinkhole.’

Coronation Street continues on Friday night on ITV at 7.30pm.
